Nominally based around a series of hard bop and film music samples amplified with crunchy beats, Mellowdramatic is an exceptional record of downtempo grooves and late-night Rhodes keyboards. Producer Bernd Kunz has an excellent sense of atmosphere concerning what a laid-back trip-hop album should be, illustrated by tracks like "Minigame," "Everything," and "Duo Trippin'." [The German release was the first version of the album to get released, and it features different packaging and an obvious language difference.]

A Forest Mighty Black is one of the few outposts for jazzy downtempo in Germany. Fronted by producer Bernd Kunz, the outfit debuted with "Candyfloss" and "Fresh in My Mind," two of the first three singles appearing on Munich's respected Compost label (also the home of recordings by Fauna Flash, Funkstörung, Beanfield and Turntable Terranova).
