The most successful band in the history of country music, Alabama, who formed in Ft. Payne, Alabama in 1969 (the group originally called itself Young Country, becoming Wildcountry in 1972, and finally became Alabama in 1977), were notable at first because they were actually an intact band, not a backing unit behind a single vocalist. Deftly mixing country, bluegrass, light pop, and a touch of Southern rock, the group formed a template later followed by bands like Diamond Rio. This brief set, really no more than a sampler, collects ten of Alabama's biggest hits, including "Mountain Music," "Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler)," and "I'm in a Hurry (And Don't Know Why)."
