Album Review

Now a quintet with the addition of multi-instrumentalist Jordi Sapena, Valencian indie pop outfit La Habitación Roja are back with the rousing Fue Eléctrico. Santi García produced this set of jagged electric guitars, pulsating verses, epic choruses, and troubled, bittersweet lyrics — with more than a passing resemblance to bands like Interpol and the Cure. Detractors may accuse the band of becoming derivative (particularly from its own past work), but fans will find plenty to enjoy in this uniformly strong collection, clearly made with a live audience in mind.

Spanish pop/rock band la Habitación Roja debuted in 1995 with a demo called Play Pop, Vol. 1, which soon came in first place at Circuit Rock 100, a local music contest; they also released a CD single featuring "Celia" and "Amanecer" and released an EP called Popanrol, on Grabaciones En El Mar, in May of 1997. After joining the Urban High Festival, opening for local Dover and British Prodigy, La Habitación Roja made their self-titled debut album, climbing on local charts with "¿Y?"...
