Album Review

Resurrecting Martika from teen idol pop obscurity, Eminem took Kanye West's style of production and appropriated large chunks of her "Toy Soldiers" chart hit for the "Like Toy Soldiers" single from his 2004 Encore record. This sent red flags around Sony BMG, which has now reissued 1997's More Than You Know greatest-hits compilation with different packaging, a slightly altered track listing, and liner notes detailing where she's been since the glory years of her solo career. Along with the title track, her gutsy cover of Carole King's "I Feel the Earth Move" and the upbeat "More Than You Know" cover all the major bases right away, leaving the rest of the album to feature album favorites and minor hits. Also included are several remixes of her singles, including the stellar Prince remix of "Love..Thy Will Be Done," which is far superior to the original. Everything the casual fan could ever want or possibly need from Martika is included on this disc, and diehards will be happy to have a concise history of her career on a single disc.
