About Anathallo

Originally from Mount Pleasant, Michigan, the Chicago-based ensemble known as Anathallo was founded in 2000 by guitarist vocalist Matt Joynt and a group of self-taught musicians. Releasing four independent EPs and touring steadily between 2001 and 2005, the band kept a rotating membership of seven or eight that sported such odd instruments as flugelhorn, harp, and glockenspiel. Released in 2006, Anathallo’s debut full-length, FLOATING WORLD, is a heavily conceptual effort inspired by a Japanese fairytale. After signing with Anticon, the band released its second LP, CANOPY GLOW, a collection of 10 subtly seething songs whose sparse instrumentation creates a dreamlike effect.
