About De Glade Sømænd

De Glade Sømænd are a Danish band with a sea shanty style who broke through to mainstream success in 2008 with their album Søforklaringer. Founded in Karrebæksminde, a small town on the Danish island of Zealand, the band is comprised of numerous members who perform in character: Kaptajnen (lead vocalist; born Sebastian Sztuk), Orlogskaptajnen, Matrosen, Fyrbøderen, Gasten, Masteføreren, Skipperen, Ankermanden Anker, and Lodsen. De Glade Sømænd released a couple albums (Høkersnaps Og Søuhyrer, 2005; Med Stiv Kuling Og Håret Tilbage, 2007) prior to breaking through to mainstream success in 2008 with the album Søforklaringer. Released on the My Way Music label, the album was something of a novelty success, peaking at number two on the Danish albums chart in its second week. It features the single "Gi'r du en Putter?" In addition to their recording output, De Glade Sømænd are a formidable live act on the Danish festival circuit. ~ Jason Birchmeier
