About Kate Alexa

Daughter of Australian music promoter Michael Gudinski, singer/songwriter Kate Alexa lived out every teenage girl's fantasy when she became an overnight pop sensation while still at school. Born in Melbourne in 1988, Alexa grew up surrounded by music thanks to her parents' roles in the industry, and started writing and recording her own songs at age 13. After signing a deal with indie label Liberation Music, her first release, "Always There," was chosen as the soundtrack to popular soap opera Home and Away's summer advertising campaign. The increasingly high profile resulted in four successive chart singles including the Top Ten hit "All I Hear" and debut album Broken and Beautiful. In 2007 she recorded the soundtrack album for children's drama H20: Just Add Water and teamed up with U.S. rapper Baby Bash on a cover version of Womack & Womack's "Teardrops." Following support slots on Cyndi Lauper's and Jesse McCartney's Australian tours, she began working on her second album with Tom Nichols (Kylie Minogue) and Future Cut (Lily Allen). In 2010 she signed a U.K. management deal with Chris Herbert, the man who put together the Spice Girls, and released "Infatuation," her first single outside her homeland, a year later. ~ Jon O'Brien
