Cheekily naming themselves after the reality television personality and MTV VJ, the London-based indie pop trio La La Vasquez formed in 2009 around the talents of guitarist Freya Watson, bassist Merida, and drummer Rachael. Purveying a murky, edgy, unabashedly lo-fi sound that welcomed comparisons to bands like the Marine Girls, Dolly Mixture, and Black Tambourine (not to mention contemporary acts like Betty and the Werewolves and Veronica Falls), the group made a few ripples in the blogosphere following the release of its first 7"single, Hello, on Captured Tracks in 2010. Another single, featuring the tracks "Buoy," "Don't Rush Me," "Why?," and "Dairy Queen," was slated for release on M'Lady's Records later that year. ~ TiVo Staff
