About Mark Mancina

Composer Mark Mancina studied classical guitar and piano at a young age before getting into prog-rock while in high school. ∙ He got his soundtrack break composing music for B movies, sometimes completing an entire film score in three days. ∙ Mancina’s partnership with Hans Zimmer yielded scores for Days of Thunder, Where Sleeping Dogs Lie, and True Romance. ∙ His production and arrangement on Disney’s The Lion King soundtrack earned him a Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children. ∙ His 1999 collaboration with Phil Collins culminated in the Tarzan soundtrack’s Academy Award-winning single, “You Will Be in My Heart,” which Mancina arranged and coproduced. ∙ Mancina contributed keyboards to Seal’s eponymous 1991 debut, featuring one of his biggest hits, “Crazy.” ∙ To prepare for the Moana soundtrack, Mancina attended gatherings of different ancient and traditional music and dances of Hawaii and New Zealand.
