About The Gories

Formed in the Motor City in 1986, the Gories responded to what they saw as yet another low point in the life of genuine rock & roll music by unleashing one of the most primitive bleats ever heard. Formed by Mick Collins, Dan Kroha, and Peg O'Neil, the band's sound was built around first wave rock & roll grooves, punk attitude, and a shot of Detroit soul. Forgoing a bass player, the Gories low end was provided exclusively by O'Neil's bare-bones drumming, while Kroha and Collins unleashed jagged, bluesy guitar riffs overtop. Though indebted to groundbreaking figures such as Bo Diddley and the Velvet Underground, the Gories had few peers over the course of their three-album career. The band broke up in 1993, but Collins would go on to front several bands including the Dirtbombs, while Kroha played in the Demolition Doll Rods and others. In 2009, the Gories reunited for a tour with fellow garage-punk legends the Oblivians.
