Her husband, Laird Sprot, finds this funny and does nothing to stop her at first. When a girl called Jessy dies, though, everyone in the country turns against the Lady Wheelhope. A mysterious new servant called Merodach comes to the house and makes her life very difficult, causing her to lose her mind in her obsession with getting revenge upon him.
