Album Review

Michael and Dyann Woody are touted as a male/female Everly Brothers duo for the '90s on this, their debut disc. While the Everly comparison is inevitable (as it is for almost any singing duo that's come in their wake), there is something undeniable and substantial when this husband-and-wife twosome wrap their voices around one of Michael's tunes. Woody has been one of Nashville's most prolific writers for a number of years, and his writing fuels the majority of numbers on this disc, with "Mama and Them," "Second Wind" and "Habits of the Heart" being particular standouts. A promising debut that one can only hope leads to more recordings for this duo.

The Woodys are the Colorado-based singer/songwriter duo of Dyann and Michael Woody. The pair met in the 1980s at college, even going out on a lunch date, but went their separate ways, only to reencounter each other a decade later in LA. They became close friends, eventually marrying in 1993. Their debut album, The Woodys, was released by Rounder in 1998, and featured the duo's tight, Everly Brothers-derived harmonies laid over loping Buddy Holly-like rhythms with plenty of Byrdsian jangle tossed...
