Album Review

Leni Stern's debut as a leader is most notable for two guitar duets ("Someday My Prince Will Come" and "Stella by Starlight") with her teacher, Bill Frisell. The duets act as a change of pace on a moody program otherwise comprised of six Stern originals and featuring the two guitars, tenor saxophonist Bob Berg, pianist Larry Willis, bassist Harvie Swartz and drummer Paul Motian. A fine set of post-bop music that served as a good start to Leni Stern's solo career.
