Album Review

The search for new ways in music, with the use of hybrid instrumentation and approaches to a multitude of styles, has become the main road to follow by almost any band. Psycore, a Swedish crew pursuing the tradition of many others coming from the northern parts of Europe, offers some more substance to the issue. Their debut, Your Problem, shows off the intention to produce sounds within a range that goes from alternative metal to the purest marks of trash. The settlement on almost uncorrupted speed metal comes within themes like "Medication," which had some airplay on MTV, and presents the skill of the Swedes to go beyond the simple ability to offer drums and guitar riffs velocity. The lyrics of all the album's tracks are a trademark of the band's vocalist, Markus Jaan. From basic phrases to complex psychic journeys within phantom figures of the soul, the words are sung and sometimes spoken in simple and yet emblematic acting speeches. The true character of the record comes from the fact that the team as no fear in risking within the wildest fields of experimentation. Although sometimes a bit too repetitive, there are tracks that reveal their command to search for new ways of making rough sounds, like "Circus" or "Enemy Aftermath." Psycore's music somehow exposes original and clean hard sets for the metal scene, relying on a strong drums presence and vigorous guitars to bring new power to it.
