Glass: In the Summer House

Glass: In the Summer House

Nico Muhly believes that great minimalist instrumental works should be beyond narrative; however, these selections for violin duo and piano certainly invite the listener to imagine cinematic landscapes and scenarios with their dark harmonies, complex rhythms and enigmatic melodies. Glass’ In the Summer House proceeds from the composer’s own elegant film score style, also pointing towards more sombre film music like Bernard Hermann’s scores for the movies of Alfred Hitchcock. Muhly’s more experimental Four Suspensions sounds shimmering and fresh here, receiving an inspired performance by the Chun sisters.
