Annette is a pleasant singer whose Growing into Myself is a set of light pop-oriented music with religious themes. One does not feel as if he is being preached to and the religious nature of much of the lyrics is subtle and often not obvious. The music, which has Michael Kowal playing most of the instruments and contributing the great majority of the songs (some of which were co-written with Annette), is pop-ish and falls into the so-called "adult contemporary" genre. It is not particularly distinctive and is never earth-shattering or innovative, but it succeeds as quiet and lightly grooving background music.

Annette is an adult contemporary-style pop vocalist with more than a touch of Anne Murray's easy listening and inspirational sides. As a youngster, Annette sang in choral groups and theatrical productions, and toured the Midwest both in a choir ensemble called the Kids from Wisconsin (in high school) and a jazz-pop band (after college). With the aid of a well-received demo tape, Annette recorded her first album, A Love Like Ours, in 1993; it spun off several singles, and she followed it in 1996...
