Despite being a mere four tracks long, this album from British smooth jazzer Theo Ross delivers a nice run of music. Ross mixes his flute playing with a smooth, breathy voice. While Ross has vocal abilities, it's ultimately the flute that comes out on top. He has a groove to his playing, taking the normally-timid instrument and pumping it into a stronger role. The compositions are perhaps a bit standard, but given the smooth jazz setting they may actually stand above much of the rest on the market. For flute aficionados, it's a fairly good pickup. For smooth jazz aficionados in general, a more established voice may be the way to go, with a longer album. Nonetheless, Ross has an excellent amuse-bouche for interested listeners.
