Thanks to better distribution and her own continued artistic growth, The Harvest proved to be Erica Wheeler's breakthrough to a wider national audience. Wheeler's music has been categorized as contemporary folk, progressive bluegrass, "new country," and Americana; the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Nanci Griffith is still a dominant influence, but Wheeler has her own voice.
