Album Review

Sonny Geraci's place in the rock & roll history books comes twice with his tenures as lead singer for the Outsiders ("Time Won't Let Me") in the 1960s and Climax ("Precious and Few") in the following decade. Outside of a little-known solo album for MCA in the '70s, these are Sonny's first new recordings in a couple of decades. The disc includes live remakes of his two biggest hits in arrangements faithful to the original singles. But far more interesting are Geraci's takes on classics from the same time period, such as "98.6," "Give Me Just a Little More Time," "Tell Her No," "I Go to Pieces" and "You're the One." All this retro material is flanked by three new songs exclusive to this collection, "If You Speak," "The Fire" and the title track, showing that Sonny still has something new to bring to the table. As a then-and-now package, this succeeds admirably and whets your appetite for another entry with a more pronounced leaning toward the "now" side of the page.
