While definitely not as thorough as 2000s superb Ultimate Collection, All-Time Greatest Hits lives up to its name by harvesting the most well-known songs of the smooth adult contemporary R&B powerhouse. Covering the early years, as well as the chart-topping later phase of their career, it's a comprehensive survey of the groups outstanding two-decade career that is virtually free of filler and lesser-known material. Those looking for simply the basics should start either here. or with the equally accessible 20th Century Masters anthology.

Atlantic Starr was among the top urban contemporary acts of the '80s and fared well in the adult contemporary market as well, but their roots were '70s soul and funk. Several members first recorded together as Newban, a funk group that released two 1977 albums, Newban and Newban 2, on the Guinness label.
