High Rise is one of the most well-known bands in Japan's rich history of extreme psychedelic rock. Founded in the early 1980s, the band takes the main influences found in nearly all great bands in the Japanese underground (American hard rock of the 1960s, Krautrock, punk, free jazz, and experimental music), and streamlines it into a expertly crafted maelstrom of righteous sonic fury. That High Rise is a power trio--with a core duo of Munehiro Narita on guitar and Asahito Nanjo on bass--is all the more shocking given the magnitude of their sound, arguably placing them amongst the ranks of other great, though better known, rock three pieces such as Motorhead, Cream, and Blue Cheer.
