About Ollabelle
The term "urban gospel" is more often associated with hip-hop and R&B-tinged religious music than it is with the high-lonesome tones of Ollabelle, yet it's a fitting one for the New York City-based quintet. The band brings a sophisticated, cosmopolitan approach to bear on traditional bluegrass, gospel, and country styles. The result, although completely its own, isn't too dissimilar to the sounds made by frontwoman Amy Helm's father's renowned group, the Band. Ollabelle's repertoire is a mix of soulful originals and reworked yet respectful takes on Southern music standards. It has made the band into critical darlings and garnered them the respect of their musical colleagues as well.
