Plot Summary

François Labas is a penniless professional impostor on the verge of making it big by marrying Sofia Bronzeman, a cosmetics queen. But before she agrees to walk down the aisle, François needs to father her child... a task that may be easier said than done. Learning that he is the sole heir of a recently deceased uncle, François must take a break from his objective and travel to Fort-Aimable, his Franco-Ontarian hometown that he fled when he was 18 years old. Upon his arrival, François finds a village in shambles where everything, even the church, is for sale. In addition, most villagers are less than pleased to see him back home, as they blame him for their misfortunes. Believing that he is a rich businessman from Montreal, they are all under the impression that he could have saved his parents’ canoe factory which served as the village’s heart for many years. Despite trying only to save his relationship with Sofia, François will find himself in a new type of role… one that he neither wants nor asked for: that of savior. Will he be able to raise the village from the ashes and find a new meaning to his life or will he prefer to flee once more and return to his lying ways? One thing is certain, whichever option he chooses, he will need the help of a locally brewed beer with, legend has it, special powers called La sacrée.
