Isham Jones' Depression-era orchestra is heard on 16 of their better titles from the era on this excellent but long out-of-print LP in RCA's famous Vintage series. The personnel, which includes trombonist Jack Jenney and some musicians who would later be a part of Woody Herman's first orchestra, is mostly fairly anonymous, although the ensembles are tight and the musicianship is excellent. The emphasis is on dance music, with an occasional jazz-oriented tune (such as "Sentimental Gentleman From Georgia," "China Boy" and "The Blue Room") included for variety.

Isham Jones led and broke up several bands during the 1920s and '30s, but his greatest legacy is as a songwriter, having composed "It Had to Be You," "On the Alamo," "I'll See You in My Dreams," "The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else," and "There Is No Greater Love," among others. Although he was originally a saxophonist and pianist, Isham Jones did not take any real solos with his bands.
