Unsere Anmerkungen

Some folks might argue with calling this Willie Nelson's best album, but they'll damn sure respect your choice. Given total creative freedom by Atlantic Records (who dropped him for exercising it), Willie handed the label this loose,damn-near messy collection that shows him kicking up all kinds of dust as a singer, player, and songwriter. This is Nelson's true "outlaw" album, where he defines country on his own terms. He blends country, jazz, rock, Western Swing, and blues into something completely his own. Nelson's then new songs sound like they'd been around for decades, and the covers sound like they were his all along. With this album, Nelson went from a respected songwriter and moderately successful singer to a long-haired rogue genius years ahead of anyone's definition of American music. Naturally, it failed miserably at the time but, its importance and influence continue to grow.
