The brainchild of Sean Murphy, this group is basically a one-man band, but it hasn't been an overnight trek. Growing up as a teenager in a small Massachusetts town, Murphy experimented constantly with blips, bleeps, and noises of all varieties. During this time he played in a myriad of hardcore punk bands, including the early genesis of what would later become the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. He studied under such people as Pauline Oliveros and Ingram Marshall, and also played synthesizer for Engelbert Humperdinck. From there, Murphy relocated to San Francisco, performing with the groups Kasosei and Pyroclastic Flow. In 2000, Murphy met Luc LeDuc, who had been a veteran musician in both Berlin and Zurich. The Bad Cassettes were formed and refined, taking hundreds of reels, diskettes, cassettes, and videotapes and forming them into a debut album. With the help of Michael Chen, the group released Bad Master on Below Recordings. The group continued to tour North America as well as Europe and Japan.
