Nikola Irmer: Promethean Boldness documents for the first time Irmer’s drawings and paintings from historic collections of taxidermy. In her works, she documents the perilous state of these collections, their former importance and their decay. She becomes a researcher herself, who in the process of her artistic practice unveals the knowledge inherent in these collections.
The E-book contains a text by Andrea M. Gáldy, an interview with the artist by Axel Lapp and an interview with Paolo Agnelli of La Specola in Florence. It further contains image galleries, references, sounds, film clippings, interactive widgets and more, creating a rich experience of Nikola Irmer's artistic work.
Nikola Irmer (* 1970 in Starnberg) studied at the Hunter College in New York, at the Glasgow School of Art and at the San Francisco Art Institute. For several years, she has been documenting historic taxidermy collections in her pictures and drawings.
what a beautiful book
all a book could be, but with all the added digital detail!
Fantastic e-book on painting
I wouldn't have thought that an e-book can work so well for painting! Besides great image galeries (with sketches "hidden" behind the final paintings) and incredibly crisp enlarged details, this e-books also features a range of the references that informed this series of paintings of birds. These references are arranged in a playful manner, allowing interaction and including sounds, pop-ups etc. The interview is interlaced with film clippings showing Nikola Irmer as she is painting on site in a museum. It is fantastic to experience the work in such a lively and interactive manner… I hope there will be many more exciting art e-books like this!
