The Shellac Project

The Shellac Project

Deutsche Grammophon presents The Shellac Project – A series of digitized material from old Galvano ‘fathers’ and ‘mothers’ from the early 20th Century. These examples span several genres and periods, representative of the wealth of historic documents to follow: From a 1907 aria of opera star Titta Ruffo to Louis Armstrong’s 1934 recording of the famous St. Louis Blues; composer Mascagni conducting himself his most famous Intermezzo, plus early examples of exquisite recordings from violinist Mischa Elman, Thomanerchor Leipzig singing Bach, and a typical 1920’s Berlin couplet by Otto Reutter.
