At the start of the regatta in Midsomer the corpse of Guy Sweetman is found in the river. Guy has had many male enemies, among them the husband of his affair Clare Bonavita.
Dr. James and the mother of David and Megan Mostyn are caught in the act by her children. Shortly after James’ colleague is pushed aside on the slippy highway and dies. But was he the right target?

Shot At Dawn
Duggie Hammond was in the firing squad which executed the young lieutenant Hicks in World War I because of his cowardice. Since then the Hammonds and the Hicks have a unforgiving antagonism. Meanwhile the sons of the gunman, Colonel a. D. Henry Hammond, and his opponent Lionel Hicks, both sit in wheelchairs. A bomb in a toy car misses its goal, to kill Lionel, by a bit. But shortly after Henry is the victim of an attempted murder.
