God skildring af de altid kendte klassikere

Vi kender jo allesammen nimrod fra Elgars dejlige symfoniske variationer. De skildrer jo hvordan forskellige medlemmer af Elgars omgangskreds ville spille (Hvis de alle kunne), en melodi han selv skrev. Denne skildring opnår Barry Tuckwell fint, men uden for meget lir og seriøsitet omkring værket. Man må dog formode at det er hvad komponisten har ment, men vi kommer altså ikke helt ned til bunden som jeg personligt godt kunne tænke mig... Men vi snakker om kendte musikstykker ville det være synd ikke at nævne pomp and circumstance march no.1. Men hvor de fleste kun kender den første, har de nu grund til at købe hele albummet da de andre militærmarcher er i rigtig god og militæragtig atmosfære. Tag f.eks. den 4. som virkelig giver et pust af lykke, og så har den jo samme opbygning som nummer et, så hvorfor ikke kunne lide den også. De to andre marcher er også rigtig dejligt sat op, og det kan anbefales at købe imperial march (obs. ikke den fra Star Wars). Jeg giver den 4 stjerner for marcherne og 3 for Enigma variationerne. Men som helhed bliver det 4 da jeg ikke mener at cd'en som helhed fortjener 3!

Barry Tuckwell is perhaps the world's most renowned French horn player and is believed to have made more recordings than any other hornist in history. As a child, he studied violin and piano, as taught by his father and older brother. He was a chorister at St. Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney and also served as organist there. He began to study horn at 13 with Alan Mann of the Sydney Conservatory. He made such rapid progress that he became a member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the age of 15, remaining...
