Album Review

Nelson Cavaquinho is one of the best samba do morro (samba of the hills) composers ever. In this excellent compilation of his original remastered recordings, he himself sings and plays, joined by highly expressive singers of the samba idiom, like Beth Carvalho, Guilherme de Brito (a longtime and very expressive partner in several of Cavaquinho's biggest hits, in the recording in which he was singing with Cavaquinho for the first time), Elizeth Cardoso, Paulinho da Viola, Clara Nunes, and the Conjunto Rosa de Ouro. All recordings were done between 1965 and 1973. An excellent opportunity for catching some of the composer's best classics in his own interpretation not always in catalog.
