About Art & Dottie Todd

Husband and wife act Art (b. Arthur William Todd, 12 March 1910, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, d. 10 October 2007, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA) and Dotty Todd (b. Doris Dabb, 22 June 1913, Elizabeth, New Jersey, USA, d. 12 December 2000, Los Angeles, California, USA) had one fling at fame when their recording of a song by Wayne Shanklin, ‘Chanson D’Amour (Songs Of Love)’, reached the US Top 10 in 1958. The couple met in 1941 while they were playing in different bands at the Providence Biltmore Hotel in Rhode Island. They discovered a mutual interest in singing, and first formed the duo and were married within a year. After relocating to Los Angeles, they began recording for RCA - Victor Records and had some success in Europe. Art found the Shanklin song and worked it into a soft shuffle in the style of Les Paul and Mary Ford. It was issued on Era Records and became the couple’s only chart hit in the USA. They continued to perform together on radio and in Las Vegas cabaret, before retiring to Honolulu in 1980.
