About Craig McLachlan

b. 1 September 1965, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Craig McLachlan initially rose to prominence for his acting skills in Australian television soap opera Neighbours. However, after both Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan had converted their thespian fame into a singing career, the same move seemed an obvious next step for McLachlan - particularly as he could actually play an instrument, the guitar. His debut single, a cover version of ‘Mona’, became an instant UK hit, peaking at number 2 in June 1990. Subsequent singles ‘Amanda’, ‘I Almost Felt Like Crying’, ‘One Reason Why’ and ‘On My Own’ were more moderately successful. A version of ‘You’re The One That I Want’, drawn from his appearances in the stage musical Grease, returned him to the UK Top 20 and reached number 13 in July 1993. Afterwards he concentrated on resurrecting his acting career. Having played a soldier in the 1991 Australian mini-series Heroes II he joined the cast of BBC Television’s science fiction series, Bugs, in 1994.
