Gitte Hænning

About Gitte Hænning

Danish singer Gitte Haenning was born in the city of Århus in 1946. A celebrated regional teen idol in the '50s, Haenning made the move to Germany in 1963, obliterating the charts with her smash single "Ich Will 'Nen Cowboy Als Mann." A highly successful collaboration with popular German singer Rex Gildo followed, but Haenning was losing interest in the unforgiving and often fleeting world of pop music. She eventually turned her sights toward jazz and film, building a legacy that includes over 120 TV productions, many theater and film appearances, and numerous hit singles and albums that continue to draw new fans each year. ~ James Christopher Monger
