About Jokeren

Jokeren is a Danish rapper from Copenhagen who embarked on a solo career in 2003 and set off on a run of steady Top Ten successes. Born Jesper Dahl on June 13, 1973 in the Nørrebro area of Copenhagen, he began his recording career in the 1990s as a member of the Danish rap group Den Gale Pose. Fellow Danish rap star Blæs Bukki (born Lasse Bavngaard) was also a member of Den Gale Pose. From the mid-'90s until the early 2000s, Den Gale Pose released the albums Mod Rov (1996), Sådan Er Reglerne (1998), and Definitionen Af En Stodder (2001), plus numerous singles. Jokeren subsequently embarked on a solo career, making his full-length album debut in 2003 with Alpha Han (2003) on EMI. The album was a blockbuster success, peaking at number three on the Danish albums chart, and includes the Top Ten hit single "Det Ku Ha Været Dig." In the wake of this debut success, Jokeren founded the vanity label Flamingo Records in association with Universal Music and released the follow-up album Gigolo Jesus (2005). A Top Ten hit on the albums chart, Gigolo Jesus spawned the single "Rastløs." Third album Den Tørstige Digter (2009) was another Top Ten hit. The singles "Gå Væk!" (featuring Blæs Bukki) and "Sig Ja" were likewise Top Ten hits. ~ Jason Birchmeier
