About Mauricio Maestro

Mauricio Maestro is a Brazilian arranger, producer, songwriter, and singer. He is the founder of the long-lived, Brazilian vocal jazz and pop group Boca Livre. In the early 1970s he played in Paulo, Cláudio & Maurício, and served as bassist on Joyce's early recordings. In 1976, a trio composed of the pair and percussionist/vocalist Nana Vasconcelos recorded Visions of Dawn in 1976; unreleased until 2009, it is widely considered a classic. Boca Livre's eponymous debut album appeared in 1979. In 2001 Boca Livre and Joyce issued the co-billed Nossos Cantos. In 2010 Maestro and Vasconcelos released the acoustic Upside Down. In 2022, Far Out Recordings released the archival Natureza. Co-billed to Joyce and Maestro, it was recorded in New York City in 1977 with Claus Ogerman, a jazz quintet, and an orchestra, and thought lost until Joyce discovered her copy of the unmixed tapes.
