Plainsong

About Plainsong

A British folk-rock group led by Iain Matthews and Andy Roberts, Plainsong is known largely for their 1972 cult classic debut, In Search of Amelia Earhart. Through critically lauded, the album was a commercial failure and the band's original lineup split up at the end of that year. Plainsong was later revived in the mid-'90s and continued to record and perform well into the 21st century before disbanding with a farewell album and tour in 2012. Since then, they have enjoyed a handful of reunions including a 2015 studio set, Reinventing Richard, which paid tribute to counterculture songwriter Richard Fariña. In 2022, Plainsong were the subject of a lavish box set based on their debut titled Following Amelia: The 1972 Recordings & More, which included ample archival material and served to honor the band's 50th anniversary.
