Debra Newell is a successful interior designer. She meets John Meehan, a handsome man who seems to check all the boxes: attentive, available, just back from a year in Iraq with Doctors Without Borders. But her family doesn’t like John, and they get entangled in an increasingly complex web of love, deception, forgiveness, denial, and ultimately, survival. Reported and hosted by Christopher Goffard from the L.A. Times.

It’s almost surreal, and that’s why it deserved to be made

Some people here are complaining about the truthfulness or realism of the show. I don’t share the same view. Why would anyone make a true crime podcast series if the circumstances are not special?

Debbie’s family is a little weird, I agree. But they’re real, and they HAVE been through all of that. If they’re a bit insane, yeah, the whole thing is.

Listen to the first episode, it’s well made and very intriguing. There’s one specific (and crucial) mystery that lasts for the entire series. Check it out for yourself :)

Horrible voices

The podcast is so good!
But I Can’t stand the way the “kids” talk. like.. I mean like.. like.. Spoken like everything is a question! Coming from Scandinavia, this is the sort of voice/accent that I (and every other scando) connect with US stupidity🙈 They should definitely had have some actresses to do their voices!

In the Darwinian theory of evolution...

women like Debby don’t actually exist.

I couldn’t bare her stupidity after a while and stopped listening. We know how this ends.
