Johnnie Taylor begin to express some frustration with Malaco in the late '80s, most of it due to their inability to get him a major hit. It's doubtful if Stax in its prime could have gotten hard-edged Southern soul aired on urban radio in the late '80s, but they gave it a shot. The title cut was a good uptempo tune, produced in a less Stax/Volt manner than usual, while they added some synthesized and drum machine textures to try to meet radio requirements. It didn't work, but it wasn't a sellout either.

Nicknamed the "Philosopher of Soul" during his Stax days, that version of Taylor is best remembered for his 1968 R&B chart-topping smash "Who's Making Love," but far and away his biggest success was 1976's across-the-board...
