1,000 Years

1,000 Years

Corin Tucker doesn’t waste any time distinguishing her solo debut from her power trio Sleater-Kinney: In contrast to that band’s glass-shattering attack, the opening title track of 1,000 Years is a slow-building swamp-blues shuffle, with Tucker’s voice never rising above a calm coo. But even at her most poised, her agitated spirit lingers: “It’s Always Summer” is a folk stomper that kicks up a thundercloud of dust; the working-class lament “Thrift Store Coats” shifts suddenly from piano reverie to amped-up power pop.
