Conceived by the mischievous Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty, this fictitious group registered a surprise UK number 1 with the novelty ‘Doctorin’ The Tardis’ in the summer of 1988. Inspired by the television series Dr Who, the insistent tune incorporated the glam rock thud of Gary Glitter, who even joined the duo when they performed the song.
