Album Review

Each successive Skydiggers album has offered a richer, more expansive sonic environment than its predecessor; the group should be especially pleased with their self-production here. Even though "Just Over The Mountain" treads known paths, Skydiggers have avoided digging themselves into a rut. But it's unlikely they can continue to mine the same ground without eventually resorting to formula. Either the "tried and true" will be enough to take them over the top or, at some point, Skydiggers will have to suck it in and experiment with more risky mountaineering.

For two decades the Skydiggers have been integral members of Canada's vibrant folk-rock scene, garnering considerable critical acclaim and community support despite repeated industry setbacks and limited commercial success. Inspired to write songs after attending a concert by the Hi-Fi's (later Blue Rodeo) at the Cabana Club in Toronto, founding member Josh Finlayson formed an acoustic duo with Andy Maize in 1988, quickly attracting attention with their strong melodic vocal harmonies....
