With his heavy-lidded delivery, warmly burnished voice and hotshot guitar work, Keb' Mo' emerged onto the '90s blues scene as an uncanny amalgam of the present and the past. Tracks like the grainy, stripped-down "Love Blues" and "Am I Wrong" evoke the soulful grit of John Lee Hooker. Elsewhere, full-scale productions like the uptempo "Come on in My Kitchen" and heavy-hearted ballad "Don't Try to Explain" glisten with the unmistakable sheen of classic '90s adult-contemporary production whilst keeping the vocals and guitar dead centre.
