Goldie's Timeless set the standard for what a drum 'n' bass LP might achieve. In a genre defined by its breakneck pace, the album's opening gambit is a soulful, 21-minute suite, and from there it plunges into double-barrelled percussive assaults, jazzy neo-soul and brooding dance-floor delirium. Goldie's dizzying breakbeat edits come to the fore on the undulating, 12-minute "Jah the Seventh Seal", while "Inner City Life" balances deft drum programming and futuristic synths with heart-rending vocals that sound simply, well, timeless.
