Melochrome's debut The Music We Make blend's the group's sweet boy-girl vocals, swirling guitars, keyboards, and gentle rhythms into laid-back dream-pop like "All the Jens in the World," "Lift," and "Wishing and Waiting." "This Is Our Year" and "The Invisibles" are some of the album's other highlights, and while songs like "Radio Star" and "A Day After Christmas" are so dreamy that they tend to drift out of focus, The Music We Make is a pleasant debut from a group that provides a fresh update on early-'90s-style shoegazing pop.

Chicago's dream-pop quartet Melochrome consists of vocalist/bassist Darlene Poole, vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Pramod Tummala, guitarist/bassist/keyboardist Thomas Stanley, and drummer Josh Isaacs. The group formed in 1996 and began gigging almost immediately after; at their third show, producer Keith Cleversley approached them about recording a single for his new label, Luminous Records.
