Editors’ Notes

Drawing from house, U.K. garage, R&B, and dubstep, the producer forged a style of after-hours club music that doesn't so much bang as purr, and the hushed vocals of collaborators—like Sampha, Jessie Ware, and Little Dragon—lend extra intimacy to his soft synths and spacious beats. One listen to the luscious low end on cuts like "Hold On" is enough to know why they call it "bass music."
