About Choir of St. John’s College, Cambridge

The St. John's College Choir, Cambridge, is one of Britain's most renowned and venerable collegiate choirs in the cathedral tradition, consisting of adult males and boys. The group is especially notable for the wide range of its repertory. Music has been sung at St. John's since the college was established in 1511, and the formation of a distinct Choir of St. John's College dates to the 1660s and 1670s. An early CD-era recording was one of Haydn's Mariazeller Messe and Kleine Orgelmesse in 1990. The choir's music director is Christopher Gray. The St. John's College Choir, Cambridge, remained active through the COVID-19 pandemic, issuing seven albums in the years 2020-2022 alone. In 2023, the group issued Magnificat 3, the third volume in a set of releases devoted to British settings of the Magnificat. By that time, the group's recording catalog comprised over 100 items.
