About Compulsive Gamblers
Greg Cartwright and Jack Yarber are mainly known for forming the Oblivians in the mid-’90s, assuming the group-derived names of Greg and Jack Oblivian. But their original outfit was the Compulsive Gamblers, which was formed in Memphis at the beginning of that decade. Initially a five-piece, the group recorded locally popular singles that fused their love of early rock & roll and sloppy garage-punk. These singles were then compiled for 1995’s GAMBLING DAYS ARE OVER, but the band called it a day in 1997. They re-formed as a trio following the Oblivians’ 1998 demise, and released two slightly more polished albums through Sympathy For The Record Industry in 1999 and 2000.
