About Geoff Zanelli

Geoff Zanelli is an Emmy-winning American composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist best known for his diverse scores for film, television, and video games. He has also worked with contemporary pop artists, including arranging and performing on albums by P!nk, Steve Martin, and Edie Brickell, and Mark Ronson. Raised in Westminster, California, Zanelli wrote songs and played guitar for local rock bands in Southern California as a teen. He went on to study film scoring and music production/engineering at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After coming to the attention of Hans Zimmer in the mid-'90s, he accepted an invitation to join the team of composers at Zimmer's scoring company, a launching pad for many successful composing careers. Zanelli accumulated dozens of film credits for additional music for the likes of Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, and John Powell, before eventually working more frequently as main composer. On 2004's Secret Window, a Stephen King adaptation starring Johnny Depp, he was credited alongside Philip Glass as composer. Two years later, he won an Emmy in the category Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series, Movie, or Special for the Steven Spielberg-produced mini-series Into the West, which aired on TNT in 2005. Subsequent solo credits included the action films Hitman (2007) and Outlander (2008), and Zanelli produced and composed the music for the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized (2009). In the 2010s, highlights of his work included scores for the HBO mini-series The Pacific (2010), The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012), the crime-comedy Masterminds (2016), and franchise entry Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). ~ Marcy Donelson
