About Government Issue
Government Issue was a hardcore punk band formed by singer John Stabb in 1980. As one of the original bands of the Washington D.C. hardcore scene, Government Issue was also one of the first bands signed to the seminal independent label Dischord Records. By the mid '80s, G.I. had essentially abandoned D.C. hardcore, embracing a more traditional rock sound and publicly criticizing what they saw as an elitist underground community. The band called it quits in 1989; however, ex-members of G.I. went on to form and/or play in such famed punk acts as Jawbox, Burning Airlines, and Bad Religion, while frontman John Stabb formed Factory Incident in 2000.
